One Piece mob beat ‘em up game series continues

ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 is an action-adventure video game that lets you step into the shoes of the beloved characters in the best-selling manga and anime series, One Piece. Developed by Omega Force and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 is the fourth installment in the Pirate Warriors video game series. Similar to the previous titles, this action game’s combat system has been adapted from Dynasty Warriors’ beat ‘em up type of gameplay.

Onto the Grand Line!

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. Released in 1997, One Piece quickly became popular and spawned an anime series and several video games for various platforms, as well. It follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, whose body gained the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit. With his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy explores the world in search of the "One Piece"—a legendary treasure that would name whoever found it the new King of the Pirates.

One Piece’s popularity enabled it to be featured in several crossover video games and spin-offs. One of its most successful game series is One Piece: Pirate Warriors, which incorporated elements from both the Dynasty Warriors video game series and the One Piece series and really captured the essence of One Piece battles in the source material.

This territory is ours!

Despite being the fourth game already, ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 still features gameplay similar to its predecessors and only adds new game modes and more playable characters from the ever-expanding world of One Piece. You still get to indulge in that classic “beat up rushing mobs of enemies with your abilities” type of fighting which Dynasty Warriors is known for—but here, your attacks will affect the environment so buildings can come crashing down with heavy blows.

This time, ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 covers an original story written by Eiichiro Oda about Wano Country, which is at the center of one One Piece’s major story arcs. There’s also a new mechanic called “Titan Mode”, which allows characters to increase in size and adds more challenges to strategizing how to deal with the enemies. More than 40 playable characters can also be used in battles.

Plus, there are 4 online co-op and multiplayer mission modes to try out: Giant Boss Battle, which is a 4-player vs. giant boss fight; Total Bounty Battle, which is a co-op mode; Timed Defense Battle, which is a team defense play; and Territory Battle, which is basically an area occupation fight between teams.

Wanna fight?

There’s a good reason why out of all the One Piece video games available, Pirate Warriors continues to be a fan favorite. ONE PIECE: PIRATE WARRIORS 4 brings back the good things about the series and adds more to its legacy, highlighting a story arc that contains new lore from the world of One Piece. This title is available for PC, PlayStation4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and is highly recommended for both One Piece fans and beat ‘em up fans.
